Johnswell National School Newsletter 2021
Good morning,
It has been a busy few months here in school and we would like to share with you some of the great initiatives going on in our school community:
Craft Fair
Our Christmas Craft Fair was a huge success for the local community. Despite the weather, it was brilliant to see so many people come out and show their support. A huge thank you to all the parents who volunteered on the day, it was much appreciated by the staff and students here in school. Operating the tables wasn't easy in those windy conditions! It raised much needed funds for the school and local community. It more importantly raised the spirits of many parents and neighbours who hadn't seen each other in many months.
IT in the Classroom
The school recently invested in 20 new tablets for the students. It really is adding to the students learning experience. We endeavour to use them to promote literacy and research skills in the classroom. It is important to build research skills with these tablets to promote independent learners in the school. If any parent feels they know of an app or resource we could use in the classroom, please get in touch. There are a vast amount of options out there, and we value your input.
Homeless Appeal
It was fantastic to see the generosity shown by the families in the school to support people less fortunate in Kilkenny. We had a mountain of selection boxes and treats here at one stage in the school and we were delighted knowing they were going to a good cause. Well done to the Parents Association for leading this appeal.
Music Generation
We have been enjoying Music Generation with Barbara every Wednesday. We are honing our musical talents and it offers us a lovely mindfulness break in the midst of busy school days.
Hurling Appeal
We got a great response to the hurling appeal. A special mention goes to Ollie and JJs father who supplied us with hurls, helmets and sliotars from the club. Karens father, James McGuill kindly did a collection in his office for hurls and we now have plenty of hurls in the school for all the students. We are looking forward to the Spring hurling already!
Parental Involvement
If anyone has a skill or idea they would like to offer the school, please get in touch. The students would love to benefit from your expertise.
An Focal Deireanach
Finally, we would as a staff, like to wish you all a Merry Christmas. It has been a trying month or two, but we can safely say the children have been enjoying the routine and activities school life brings. We aim to finish this week with plenty of Christmas activity and cheer. We look forward to seeing everyone in the New Year.
