Johnswell School is currently working on our fourth green flag under the theme of travel. Our aim is to promote sustainable transport methods by encouraging the children to walk, cycle, scoot, carpool and even 'park n stride' to school.
Our WOW days (Walk on Wednesdays) have been a great success and we had great fun with our SOW day (Scoot on Wednesdays) and scooting lessons with Chiara, our Green school co-ordinator.
In Johnswell N.S we try to incorporate the active flag into all areas of school day. Every day the whole school participates in the Daily Mile. A little running each day can add up to a lot!
We believe that a healthy mind and body is the way forward for our pupils.
Lunch times are very busy in our school - older children are given the opportunity to lead the younger children in playground games.
Soccer, hurling, hockey and rounders leagues all take place throughout the year with Mr. Campion as well as hurling and camogie activites taking place after school.
The senior room had great fun exploring crumble coding, using circuit boards, connecting motors, LED's and switches. The children created some fabulous gingerbread houses with sparkling lights. The project proved to be an excellent learning process building the children's perseverance and independent thinking.
Mr. Campion and his room have been very busy over the last few weeks creating a school pond and a wildlife garden. We look forward to seeing the frogspawn turning into frogs over the next few months and seeing all the new wildlife that will be attracted to our new garden.
The children attend swimming lessons every year during the Summer term in the Watershed for a period of 6-8 weeks.
